NLNRS Legacy Scholarship

The Newfoundland and Labrador Nurses Respiratory Society (NLNRS) was officially disbanded in January 2013. The group transferred its unused funds to the Trust to establish a scholarship for registered nurses working in respiratory care who are enrolled in a graduate program.

One NLNRS Legacy Scholarship will be awarded annually to a registered nurse completing a Doctorate of Nursing or Master of Nursing degree.

Value: $2000 (full-time) or $1000 (part-time) 
Application Deadline: October 15th 

IMPORTANT

  • Funding decisions for the Fall competition will be made in mid-late November.
  • Applicants will be notified whether or not their application is successful within 5 working days of the committee meeting. Notifications will be sent via email using the address provided in your application. Please be sure to provide an email address that you check regularly.
  • Due to an increase in the number applications, we are no longer able to respond to individual requests for information regarding the status of an application.

Who Can Apply

Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered for the NLNRS Legacy Scholarship:  

  • be enrolled in a Doctorate of Nursing1 program at a recognized university,
  • be completing a thesis or clinical project with a respiratory focus,2 
  • are not a previous recipient of this scholarship, 3  
  • are a member in good standing with CRNNL, and
  • are a member of the Trust.4 

Note: 

1 In the event there are no suitable Doctorate of Nursing applicants, the scholarship may be awarded to an applicant who meets the application criteria outlined and who is enrolled in a Master of Nursing program.

2 In the event that there are no applicants completing a thesis or clinical project with a respiratory focus, the scholarship may be awarded to an applicant with a demonstrated professional practice in respiratory care. 

3 A recipient of this scholarship is not eligible to reapply for the scholarship at the same education level (e.g., apply more than once at the MN level). However, a recipient of a scholarship at the MN level may reapply at the PhD level. 

4 All CRNNL members with a current practicing license are members of the CRNNL Education & Research Trust. CRNNL members with a current non-practicing license can become a member of the Trust by paying the $10 Trust membership fee.

Applications must be completed using the Graduate Nursing Scholarship Application Form

Late applications will not be considered.

Supporting Documentation

You are required to provide additional documentation to support your application. The Application Requirements document includes a checklist of supporting documentation that must be submitted in order for your application to be considered complete. All supporting documentation (including references and transcripts) must be received at CRNNL House by the application deadline.

Selecting Recipients 

The Awards Committee will rank the applicants on the basis of the following criteria (in order): 

  • academic ability, 
  • potential contribution to the nursing profession, 
  • personal statement, and 
  • financial need (as determined by whether the applicant has received funding from other sources; personal financial information is not used). 

Note: The scholarship must be used in the academic year in which it is granted.
